Christian Hillary’s 67 RS SS Camaro

With over 30 years experience in the automotive and motorsport industry, including US Indy Racing League, Trans-Am, and ALMS Sportscar Prototype involvement, the Le Mans 24 Hours, Rolex 24 Hours, the Indianapolis 500, and New Zealand V8 Touring Cars, we've got the know-how to put you at the head of the pack. Whether it's a turn-key race car, built from the ground up, or fine-tuning an existing race car, we can help.

Christina Hillary’s 67 SS RS Camaro has been an on-going project for a few years now, we mini-tubbed it & fitted the Mark Williams Funny Car style diff  about 4 years ago, then “life” got in the way & the car was parked for a while. Now we are back in full swing, the car will be done in 2 stages, it will have a hot big block & 5 speed initially but down the track Christian wants a 1000-ish HP engine fitted. So all the support systems ie, fuel, cooling , exhaust etc are being built for the long term combination. The car rides on Air-Ride adjustable gas shocks, has HUGE brakes & we are making sure the car WILL handle well. Christian wants the Camaro to be an NZV8 cover car & so far its on its way to being one.

June 2018

“ Christian Hillary’s Camaro is finally done, as Todd & the gang at NZV8 magazine showed in MAYS edition. We sort of got caught out by the Xmas break, every year it seems more & more business’s close for longer & longer & that just stalls a lot of my projects. We got the car to Taupo race track in early January & shook it down, that is standard procedure with any major build as it is absolutely the safest place to bed in brakes, gearbox, diff etc & make sure there are no hi-speed issues. Thankfully Christian was very patient over the last 6 months of the build which allowed me to slot other jobs in & around his. Steve Hildred was great throughout the certification process, despite Wellington throwing all kinds of curb-balls at us. Matt from Sparked Electrical in Matamata was also awesome working through some tricky electrical issues with the air ride suspension amoungst other things. Thanks also to Craig, Zac & Joel at Greerton Panel & Paint for the obvious & to Shawn at Action Canvas for the great job of getting the American supplied upholstery to actually fit & look great. As mentioned above, the NZV8 magazine article does such a good job of covering the build theres not much more for me to say – except – roll on the Bonneville Charger project !. “

We can build you a turn-key race car from the ground up, or we can fine-tune an existing race car. We can fabricate new items, or provide advice on getting the best from an existing set-up. Please visit our Projects page to see some of the work we have carried out for other customers. more info

Road

So many modified and hobbyist road cars suffer from poor tuning, be it engine or chassis tuning. We like to focus on what we call 'driveability', ie, nice throttle application, carburettor, and chassis tuning.
